Don’t forget to mark the 4th Feb in your diary as World Cancer Day. World Cancer Day is the day when the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) looks to unite the cancer community in the ongoing fight against cancer. Their aim is to ‘save millions of preventable deaths each year by raising awareness and education about the disease and pressing governments and individuals across the world to take action’.
World Cancer Day is a global event that takes place every 4th February and this year is taking place under the tagline ‘Not beyond us’. This is a positive and proactive approach and brings to the fore that solutions do exist and can be implemented across the spectrum of cancer care.
Alongside many others, Oncimmune is committed to World Cancer Day. Through its work on early cancer detection and development of the EarlyCDT-lung test and successfully helping to diagnose lung cancer in the early stages, as well as being part of the ECLS study in Scotland. Oncimmune continues its mission to develop early cancer detection tests to identify more than 90 percent of solid-tumour cancers.
There are four sub categories below the ‘Not Beyond us’ tag and they are:-
Healthy Life Choices
Empowering people to make healthy choices and reducing the social and environmental risk factors for cancer are key to achieving the global goal of reducing premature deaths from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by 25% by 2025 and reaching the targets of the World Cancer Declaration.
Ensuring the availability of, and access to, early detection programmes for cancer can significantly reduce the cancer burden in all countries.
Treatment for All
All people have the right to access quality, effective cancer treatment and services on equal terms, regardless of geography and without suffering economic hardship as a consequence.
Quality of Life
Understanding and responding to the full impact of cancer on emotional, mental and physical wellbeing will maximise the quality of life for patients, their families and carers.
The campaign will explore how these areas can be implemented and expanded upon to decrease the global cancer burden. Everyone is being asked to be involved, every individual or community to help put these solutions to action and create positive change. By moving forward together we have the potential to show: Cancer. It is not beyond us.
Last year saw 674 events in 123 countries, so check out the events that may be happening in your area or in your country. http://www.worldcancerday.org/events-map. If you cannot find something that is suitable, then why not start an event yourself, because putting the message out about World Cancer Day is, at the very least Not Beyond us!
Oncimmune will be hoping to inspire others to be part of World Cancer Day, not only this year but beyond.
