NCIMMUNE LEADING EARLY CANCER DETECTION

Risk Factors

The Male and Female Risk Calculations are based on algorithms created by clinicians at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in the US that were developed from extensive data that took into account age, smoking history and consumption levels to establish an estimated risk for smokers and ex-smokers.

In this simplified version of the model we do not take into account a number of additional risk factors, such as first degree relatives with lung cancer and we have adjusted the calculation to give 5 year risk. In order to better understand this data, we use “Joe” as an example of a typical male smoker.

One or more of the following could lead to an Increased Risk of Lung Cancer:

  • Extensive smoking, especially of heavy-tar tobacco found in cigarettes and marijuana
  • Prolonged exposure to second-hand smoking
  • Close relatives who had lung cancer
  • Exposure to radon, asbestos, coal products and/or radioactive substances
  • Exposure to chemicals such as arsenic, vinyl chloride and other carcinogens
  • Diagnosis of tuberculosis, silicosis and/or berylliosis with or without scarring on the lungs
  • Recurring pneumonia or bronchitis

The following risk assessment tool is intended to help you determine your risk of lung cancer in the next year. The tool is based on a model of the risk of lung cancer for both smokers and ex-smokers that was developed by clinicians at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. The clinicians developed the model using numerous variables that are known to have a significant association with lung cancer. This simplified version uses only gender, age (over 40) and smoking history.

This tool is not able to calculate a risk for current or past smokers with a smoking history of less than 20 pack years or who are under the age of 40. A pack year is calculated by multiplying the number of packs of cigarettes (20 cigarettes) smoked each day by the number of years smoked. For example, 20 pack years is the equivalent of having smoked 1 pack of cigarettes every day for 20 years OR smoking 2 packs of cigarettes per day for 10 years.

IF YOU HAVE TAKEN the EarlyCDT®-Lung test, you can enter your test result to see how your risk now changes from that predicted by your gender, age and smoking history alone. The results are based on clinical studies that Oncimmune has performed and is in the process of publishing. Please complete the brief interactive questionnaire to obtain your personal risk report.
